Sales Management
Sales management is the process of developing a sales force, coordinating sales operations, and implementing sales techniques that allow a business to consistently hit, and even surpass, its sales targets. If your business brings in revenue, sales management should be a given. It’s crucial to boosting sales performance for any size of operation, no matter the industry. Besides helping your company reach its sales objectives, the sales management process allows you to stay in tune with your industry as it grows, and can mean the difference between merely surviving and flourishing.

A good sales management process – just like a good sales process – creates consistency and predictability for ongoing sales execution. Specifically, an effective sales management process accomplishes four things:

  • It enables the development of excellent sales plans and sales territory plans.
  • It helps managers prioritize seller activities to ensure the highest likelihood of quota attainment.
  • It helps managers determine the right type and frequency of coaching conversations to enable sellers to execute effectively and consistently.
  • It enables managers to assess what is and isn’t working in the sales process.

Marketing Management
The marketing management process is hard to narrowly define. Marketing managers come in a bewildering variety: product marketers, online marketers, channel marketers, event marketers, market researchers, public relations managers, and so forth. They manage an even more bewildering variety of marketing projects from marketing plans and blog posts to product launches.

Marketing is first and foremost a process that every business must do, whether or not it has a marketing department. In its simplest form, marketing is the process of getting the capabilities of the company aligned with the needs of the customer to deliver value and make money. The marketing process itself consists of optimizing the four components of the marketing mix: product, pricing, promotions and channels for both delivery and brand communication.
